Job Description:
A prestigious boutique 5-star hotel located in the heart of Gaborone seeks an accomplished Hotel General Manager to lead its operations and elevate its brand of luxury and refinement. With over 150 luxury rooms, fine dining experiences, curated wine selections, and a strong culture of sophistication, this property requires a visionary leader with international 5-star experience, exceptional people management skills, and a flair for French-inspired service excellence.
The successful candidate will be entrusted with overseeing all aspects of the hotel’s operations while fostering a culture of etiquette, class, and personalized service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee daily hotel operations including guest services, housekeeping, food & beverage, spa, and events.
- Ensure the delivery of luxury guest experiences in line with international 5-star standards.
- Collaborate with chefs, sommeliers, and service teams to curate exceptional fine dining and wine experiences.
- Cultivate an ambience of sophistication, blending modern luxury with French-inspired refinement.
- Drive operational excellence and financial performance through effective revenue management and cost control.
- Mentor, motivate, and lead staff to achieve a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with VIP guests, corporate partners, and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a General Manager in luxury or 5-star boutique hotels.
- Demonstrated expertise in hospitality leadership with a refined, French-style management approach.
- Strong knowledge of fine dining operations, international cuisines, and wine expertise (sommelier training an advantage).
- Financial management skills with a proven track record in budgeting and revenue growth.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Academic Degrees
- Bachelor’s Degree (minimum requirement) in one of the following:
- Hospitality Management / Hotel & Tourism Management
- Business Administration or Management (with hospitality electives)
- Culinary Arts or Food & Beverage Management (advantage, especially if paired with wine and cuisine expertise)
- Master’s Degree (preferred, but not always required):
- MBA with a focus on Hospitality or International Business
- Masters in Global Hospitality Management (offered by schools like Les Roches, Glion, Cornell, École Hôtelière de Lausanne)
Professional Certifications
- Hospitality Management Certifications
- CHA (Certified Hotel Administrator) – from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI). Globally recognized for hotel GMs.
- CHRM (Certified Hospitality Revenue Manager) – for financial and revenue optimization skills.
- CHAE (Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive) – for strong finance-focused GMs.
- Food & Beverage / Culinary / Wine Certifications
- Sommelier Certifications – Court of Master Sommeliers (Level 1–4) or WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Level 2–3 at minimum).
- Culinary Arts Diploma / Certificate – from a recognized institution (advantageous if the GM is closely involved with menus).
- Leadership & Service Excellence
- Luxury Hospitality Leadership Programs – e.g., offered by Cornell, INSEAD, or École Hôtelière de Lausanne.
- Service Excellence & Etiquette Certifications – programs focusing on 5-star luxury service and VIP guest relations.
- PLUS, The Following: -
- International experience managing 5-star boutique or luxury hotels.
- Multilingual capabilities (English and French highly desirable; other international languages advantageous).
- Cultural adaptability and sensitivity with a passion for delivering personalized, world-class service.

Summary:
