Job Description:
Responsible for managing the mining contract and all mining activities at the mine to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. The role leads life-of-mine planning, contractor governance, technical teams, budgeting, and HSE compliance while building a high-performance culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead LoM, annual budget, quarterly planning, and cash-flow model development; implement risk-mitigation strategies.
- Oversee mining contractor performance, safety, cost compliance, governance, and commercial management (claims/payments per contract).
- Manage Mine Planning & Engineering, Survey, and Geotechnical teams; ensure technical excellence and operational alignment.
- Establish and maintain systems for reporting, regulatory compliance, planning, optimisation, and SOPs.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets/forecasts; ensure disciplined cost control, modelling, and monthly performance reporting.
- Drive a strong safety culture; ensure full compliance with HSE standards and statutory regulations across all mining activities.
- Champion leadership development, mentoring, and capability building for a safety-focused workforce.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Mining Engineering from a recognised university.
- Registered with the Engineers Registration Board (or equivalent).
- Botswana Open Pit Blasting Licence (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-graduate studies (Honours/MSc) highly regarded.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of drill & blast and open-pit mining methods.
- Working knowledge of Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works & Machinery Regulations.
- Leadership & coaching, people management, and stakeholder influence at senior levels.
- Excellent oral/written communication; corporate thinking and team orientation.
- High attention to detail, tenacity, and ability to perform in a production environment.
- Capability to lead a large, multi-disciplinary team.
Relevant Experience:
- 20+ years post-qualification mining experience across all mining aspects, including ≥5 years open pit.
- 10+ years in frontline management/leadership roles.
- International experience desirable.
