Job Description
Freedom 77 Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of reputable organizations across Botswana operating within sectors such as finance, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, logistics, professional services, and mining. Our clients are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to support their finance teams and contribute to the efficient management of financial operations.
The Junior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards while supporting the day-to-day activities of the finance department in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process daily financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare and post journal entries into the accounting system.
- Maintain the general ledger and supporting accounting records.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile supplier and customer accounts.
- Process invoices, receipts, payments, and expense claims.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Assist in preparing budgets and monitoring departmental expenditure.
- Maintain proper filing and organization of financial documents.
- Assist with payroll preparation and processing where required.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and statutory requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Identify discrepancies and assist in resolving accounting issues.
- Prepare VAT schedules and assist with statutory tax submissions where applicable.
- Perform any other accounting or finance-related duties assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Accounting or AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage, Pastel, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting systems will be an added advantage.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a corporate, hospitality, retail, manufacturing, or professional services environment.
- Knowledge of Botswana tax legislation, VAT, and statutory financial reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of ERP or accounting software systems.
- Progress toward a professional accounting qualification will be considered an advantage.
