Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Metso Crusher Mechanic with proven hands-on expertise in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Metso crushers and other quarry crushing and screening equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining stationary and mobile crushing plants used in the production of crushed stone, aggregates and crusher dust, ensuring equipment reliability and minimal downtime.
The ideal candidate must have direct practical experience working on Metso jaw and/or cone crushers, with strong mechanical fault-finding, maintenance and repair capabilities.
Experience with vibrating screens, conveyors, hydraulic systems and diesel-powered, diesel-electric or electrically driven crushing equipment will be advantageous.
This is a specialist crusher mechanic position. General diesel or heavy equipment mechanical experience without proven Metso crusher maintenance experience will not be sufficient.
The position may require relocation or working at remote quarry sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs on Metso and other quarry crushers.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults on jaw crushers, cone crushers and associated equipment.
- Inspect, repair and replace bearings, shafts, crusher liners, gearboxes, drive assemblies and other mechanical components.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic systems, lubrication circuits and mechanical drive mechanisms.
- Perform mechanical maintenance on vibrating screens, conveyors and associated quarry equipment.
- Maintain stationary and mobile crushing plants, including diesel-powered, diesel-electric and electrically driven equipment.
- Perform mechanical fitting, component replacement, adjustments and major crusher repairs.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance to minimise equipment downtime.
- Independently diagnose breakdowns and implement effective mechanical repairs.
- Interpret technical drawings, Metso maintenance manuals and manufacturer specifications.
- Identify worn or defective components and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Assist with crusher installations, maintenance shutdowns and equipment testing.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report recurring equipment faults.
- Work closely with quarry operations and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability.
- Follow workplace health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Work independently at operational sites and respond to urgent breakdowns.
- Perform other mechanical maintenance duties reasonably required by management.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Metso crushers – Essential.
- Practical experience maintaining and repairing jaw crushers and/or cone crushers.
- Demonstrated mechanical fault-finding, troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of crusher bearings, shafts, hydraulics, lubrication systems and mechanical drives.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs and component replacements.
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair quarry crushing equipment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and at remote operational sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Trade Certificate, National Craft Certificate, Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Plant Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance.
- Manufacturer-specific training in Metso crushing equipment.
- Technical training in jaw crusher and cone crusher maintenance.
- Training in hydraulic systems, mechanical fitting and equipment maintenance.
- Experience maintaining vibrating screens, conveyors and associated quarry equipment.
- Familiarity with stationary and mobile crushing plants.
- Training in mechanical safety, preventive maintenance or equipment reliability.
Skills:
- Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and fault diagnosis on Metso crushers.
- Strong practical knowledge of jaw crushers, cone crushers and quarry crushing equipment.
- Mechanical fitting, component replacement and repair capabilities.
- Knowledge of bearings, shafts, gearboxes, hydraulics and lubrication systems.
- Experience with vibrating screens, conveyor systems and mechanical drives.
- Understanding of stationary, mobile and diesel-electric crushing equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and manufacturer maintenance manuals.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance skills.
- Ability to independently diagnose and resolve mechanical breakdowns.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to urgent breakdowns.
- Good communication, teamwork and time management skills.
- High attention to equipment safety and maintenance quality.
Relevant Experience:
- Proven hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Metso crushers – Essential.
- Practical experience maintaining jaw crushers, cone crushers and quarry crushing machinery.
- Experience repairing crusher mechanical components, including bearings, shafts, hydraulics and drive systems.
- Experience maintaining stationary and/or mobile crushing plants.
- Experience with other recognised quarry crusher manufacturers will be advantageous.
- Experience maintaining vibrating screens, conveyors and associated crushing equipment.
- Familiarity with diesel-powered, diesel-electric or electrically driven crushing plants.
- Experience performing major mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs.
- Practical experience in quarrying, mining, aggregate production or crushing and screening operations.
- Previous experience working independently at remote quarry or mining sites will be an added advantage.
