Job description

A reputable mine is seeking an experienced Blaster for its operations in Botswana. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in conducting safe, effective blasting operations within underground or surface mining environments. If you are meticulous, safety-focused, and licensed to handle explosives, this role offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and execute controlled blasting operations in line with mine plans and regulations.
• Load and detonate explosives safely within designated blast zones.
• Drill blast holes using pneumatic or hydraulic drills following approved blast designs.
• Assess geological conditions to determine proper explosive placement and quantities.
• Conduct thorough pre-blast risk assessments and post-blast inspections.
• Maintain blasting tools and equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
• Submit detailed blasting logs, reports, and comply with statutory documentation.
• Ensure full compliance with explosives regulations, including storage and transport.
• Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and safety officers for operational coordination.
• Guide, train, and oversee junior blasting crew members when required.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Comprehensive knowledge of blasting techniques, explosives handling, and detonation procedures.
• Strong grasp of mining safety standards and emergency protocols.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong situational awareness.
• Ability to interpret technical blast plans and geological data.
• Valid Blasting License/Permit is a strict requirement.
