Job Description
Freedom 77 Recruitment is seeking an experienced Project Manager for a major civil infrastructure project in Botswana. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing large-scale construction works, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, driving programme delivery, controlling costs, managing subcontractors, and ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. This role requires a strong construction background, practical site leadership experience, and the ability to manage complex civil works in a structured and commercially disciplined manner.
Experience Requirements
- More than 10 years’ construction experience.
- Successfully managed at least 3 construction projects / construction sites.
- Botswana/SADC project experience preferred.
- Experience managing major civil engineering construction projects and large multidisciplinary teams.
- Advantageous experience in bulk water infrastructure, pipelines, reservoirs, pump stations, water treatment plants, tanks, design-and-build projects, and FIDIC (or similar) contracts.
Qualifications
- University degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.
- Practising as an ERB Professional.
- PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or equivalent recognised project management certification.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Manage day-to-day project execution.
- Ensure works are delivered in line with programme, budget, quality and safety requirements.
- Coordinate site teams and multiple construction work fronts.
- Drive production and resolve site constraints quickly.
Programme and Planning
- Prepare, review and monitor construction programmes.
- Track progress against planned targets and prepare recovery plans when required.
- Coordinate design approvals, procurement and site execution.
Team Management
- Lead construction managers, engineers, foremen, supervisors, subcontractors and support teams.
- Set clear targets for each work front; monitor daily and weekly production outputs.
- Ensure accountability across the site team.
Commercial and Cost Control
- Support budget control and cost monitoring.
- Assist with monthly valuations, payment applications and progress reports.
- Identify potential variations, delays and claims.
- Ensure subcontractor performance and costs are properly managed.
Quality, Safety and Compliance
- Ensure works comply with drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Manage inspections, testing and quality records.
- Ensure safe work procedures are followed and promote a strong safety culture.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with consultants, engineers, clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Attend project meetings and prepare accurate reports.
- Ensure professional communication with all stakeholders.
- Escalate key project risks and decisions to senior management.
