The Camp Manager will provide strategic leadership and oversee the overall management and successful operation of both the luxury safari lodge and its surrounding private game reserve. As the senior operational leader on-site, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the seamless delivery of exceptional guest experiences while maintaining the highest standards of luxury hospitality, operational excellence, conservation, and sustainable tourism practices.

This role encompasses the management of accommodation services, food and beverage operations, safari activities, guest experiences, wildlife and environmental stewardship, staff leadership, financial performance, property maintenance, and health and safety compliance. Working closely with all departmental teams, the Camp Manager will drive service excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement while preserving the lodge's reputation as one of Botswana's leading luxury safari destinations.

Key Responsibilities

Luxury Lodge Operations

  • Oversee the daily operations of the entire lodge and private game reserve.
  • Ensure all departments consistently deliver exceptional 5-star hospitality standards.
  • Maintain outstanding standards across accommodation, guest facilities, dining areas, recreational spaces, and public areas.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency and guest satisfaction.
  • Coordinate all lodge departments to ensure seamless day-to-day operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure service excellence and operational compliance.

Guest Experience & Hospitality

  • Deliver exceptional personalized guest experiences throughout the entire guest journey.
  • Welcome VIP and high-profile guests while ensuring personalized attention.
  • Build strong relationships with guests and encourage repeat visits.
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor guest feedback and implement continuous service improvements.
  • Ensure every guest receives warm Botswana hospitality and an unforgettable luxury safari experience.

Private Game Reserve Management

  • Oversee the daily operations of the lodge's private game reserve.
  • Coordinate closely with professional guides, trackers, wildlife personnel, and conservation teams.
  • Ensure ethical wildlife viewing and responsible safari practices.
  • Monitor roads, game viewing areas, hides, waterholes, and reserve infrastructure.
  • Promote conservation awareness among guests and staff.
  • Support anti-poaching initiatives, habitat preservation, and biodiversity conservation where applicable.

Accommodation & Housekeeping

  • Ensure all guest rooms, suites, tents, villas, and public areas are maintained to impeccable luxury standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of accommodation and facilities.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure housekeeping operations consistently exceed guest expectations.

Food & Beverage Management

  • Oversee all restaurant, bar, kitchen, and catering operations.
  • Ensure exceptional food quality, presentation, hygiene, and service.
  • Coordinate bush dining experiences, private dinners, and special events.
  • Monitor compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.

Staff Leadership & Human Resources

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise employees across all departments.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and guest-focused workplace culture.
  • Prepare staff schedules and manage workforce planning.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and identify staff development opportunities.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Develop and manage operational budgets.
  • Monitor departmental expenditure and control costs.
  • Maximize occupancy, guest satisfaction, and revenue opportunities.
  • Oversee stock control, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Prepare financial and operational reports for senior management.

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Ensure all lodge buildings, staff accommodation, vehicles, safari vehicles, machinery, utilities, and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor asset registers and maintenance records.
  • Ensure reliable operation of utilities, generators, water systems, and infrastructure.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Botswana tourism, environmental, labour, and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections across the lodge and game reserve.
  • Ensure first aid equipment, firefighting systems, and emergency communication systems remain fully operational.
  • Minimize operational risks while protecting guests, staff, and wildlife.

Environmental Sustainability & Conservation

  • Promote sustainable tourism and environmentally responsible lodge operations.
  • Implement waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and water management initiatives.
  • Ensure the protection of wildlife habitats and natural ecosystems.
  • Encourage responsible tourism practices among staff and guests.

Sales, Marketing & Business Development

  • Support marketing initiatives that promote the lodge's luxury safari experiences.
  • Build relationships with travel agents, tour operators, and tourism partners.
  • Assist in developing promotional campaigns and seasonal packages.
  • Maintain the lodge's reputation through exceptional guest reviews and service delivery.

Administration & Reporting

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Monitor occupancy, guest trends, and departmental performance.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
  • Present performance reports and recommendations to senior management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Business Management, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years' experience managing a luxury safari lodge, game reserve, resort, or high-end hospitality establishment.
  • Proven experience managing multi-department operations within a 5-star luxury hospitality environment.
  • Strong understanding of safari lodge operations, wildlife tourism, and eco-tourism.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • First Aid certification (advantageous).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within Botswana's tourism and hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of private game reserve operations and conservation practices.
  • Experience using hospitality property management and reservation systems.
  • Training in Health & Safety, Hospitality Leadership, or Wildlife Conservation will be advantageous.
