Job Description:
Supervise and coordinate contractors executing structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) works to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality delivery in line with project specifications, design requirements, and schedules. The role focuses on contractor oversight, QA/QC control, technical coordination, and strict adherence to HSE and project standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise SMP contractors to meet project specs, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Conduct inspections/audits of installations; verify conformance to design and codes.
- Track construction progress vs. schedule; identify delays and escalate mitigation actions.
- Provide first-line responses to contractor RFIs/technical queries; escalate complex issues to senior/discipline leads.
- Oversee QA/QC documentation, ITPs, checklists, and contractor reporting; ensure complete inspection/test records.
- Coordinate site interfaces with civil, E&I, operations, and commissioning teams.
- Enforce site HSE practices; perform safety inspections, corrective actions, and incident support.
- Assist with contractor administration: progress claims, variations, and contract compliance.
- Support punch-listing, as-built records, handover, and commissioning readiness.
- Maintain professional communication with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders on scope, standards, and deliverables.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline) from a recognised institution.
- Minimum 8 years’ SMP construction/installation experience in mining, heavy industry, or large-scale projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registration with a recognised professional body (ERB) highly desirable.
- Formal training in QA/QC, construction HSE, or project controls.
- Evidence of delivering projects on time and within budget.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of SMP construction practices, standards, and ITP/QA processes.
- Contractor supervision, schedule control, and field coordination.
- Planning, organisation, reporting, and risk/issue escalation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; stakeholder management.
- Commitment to safety, health, and environmental compliance; leadership and teamwork.
Relevant Experience:
- Site-based project execution with contractor management responsibility.
- Coordinating multi-discipline interfaces (civil, E&I, operations).
- Commissioning support, punch-list clearance, and as-built documentation.
