Basic Function:

The Surveyor is responsible for providing all survey services to underground mining and surface operations, ensuring compliance with the survey code of practice and statutory requirements. This role is critical in supporting the design, planning, and safety of mining activities by ensuring accurate representation on
mine plans.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct underground surveys, including workings advances, stockpiles, and dumps, to update plans and calculate volumetrics.
  • Set out mining limits to guide mine development and stoping in accordance with mine design parameters.
  • Perform depletions, analyze, and interpret survey data to determine total ore flow.
  • Validate production data and reconcile it with survey measurements for official reporting purposes.
  • Determine appropriate survey methods and implement monitoring systems to detect structural deformation.
  • Acquire and analyze spatial data to ensure system integrity and monitor ground movements and structural behavior, informing stakeholders as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with best practice survey standards, data collection, quality control, and assurance systems.
  • Implement corrective actions based on findings from Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) audits.
  • Enforce company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Manage statutory compliance related to survey records, plans, and lease boundaries, adhering to legal requirements and the Mines, Quarries, Works, and Machinery Act.


Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Mine Surveying or a related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in mine survey software.
  • At least 6 years of experience in underground mine surveying.
  • 3 to 4 years of experience in a fully mechanized underground mining operation.
  • Experience with survey projects, such as decline re-traverses, is desirable.
